Testing testing is this thing on?
I have been inspired by Catherine Baab-Muguira, George Saunders and Cathy Park Kelly to start a Substack. I’ve been blogging from the Wordpress platform for years now (various sites, but my latest is www.tanyameeson.com) and have been finding the blogging/writing aspect of it clunkier and clunkier with each update. Not that that has inspired me to move. Other platforms just haven’t appealed. Until this one.
So. Here we are now.
For the time being, I’ll slowly migrate my current content over and then, hopefully, just move all my existing subscribers and new blogging goodies here (Is there a new word for blogging? What do the cool kids call ‘writing updates that are mostly just thoughts about things and nothing fancy and nothing that anyone pays you for’?).
I don’t know what the engagement is like on this platform. I’d given up on that on Wordpress because it’s so clunky and spam is a giant pain in the ass, but I miss it. I remember when I started my first blog in 2006 on Blogspot (HA!) being totally bowled over when I started getting comments from people I didn’t know. It was like a magic trick the new world of social internet had just shown me. More intimate than IRC and less manic. And then Twitter arrived and scratched that itch and now look. What a mess, what a mess.
Well anyway. Not sure I’m doing this right, but luckily it’s a pretty empty room right now so if I fluff my lines I can just stumble onto the next anecdote and try again.
